(Development)

1992-1993 old picture
The National Seminary of the Catholic Church in China (National Seminary) was established in 1983. Its former location was at the third floor of the building of the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association and the Chinese Catholic Bishops’ Conference at Linyin Jie. This seminary is under the joined leadership of the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association and the Chinese Catholic Bishops’ Conference. From there, the seminary moved to Zhang wa Jie, Hai Dian district in 1992. In the year 2000, the seminary moved to its present site in Da Xing, with an area of 58 mu, the buildings occupy around 20,000 square meters.
The main theme of the construction of the whole seminary was designed according to the idea of the Chinese tradition of “Tian Yuan Di Fang.” In the middle stands the Annunciation Chapel that was built with some similarity to the Heavenly Temple. Surrounding this chapel are four buildings that formed a square. These buildings are: St. John Building (where seminarians have their classes), St. James Building (where priests’ continuous education programs are held), St. Peter Auditorium and St. Joseph Library.
